江天一者，黟县布衣也。少时好读书，家贫无以自给，尝为人佣书以养母。性至孝，母病则忧形于色，昼夜侍奉，未尝暂离。乡里称其贤。
后闻四方多乐山水者，乃游历名山大川，足迹遍于东南。每至一处，必登高望远，吟诗作赋，抒发胸中块垒。其所作诗词，多寄情自然，寄寓人生感慨。
及归，闭门读书，潜心学问。常谓人曰：“吾虽布衣，然志在天下。欲以所学，济世安民。”遂设馆授徒，教化乡里。乡人感其德，多从之学。

Jiang Tianyi was an ordinary citizen of Yixian County. In his youth, he loved to read books, but due to his family's poverty, he could not support himself. He once worked as a scribe for others to support his mother. He was extremely filial; when his mother fell ill, he would show his concern visibly and serve her day and night without ever leaving her side. People in the village praised him as virtuous.
Later, hearing that many people who enjoyed nature traveled far and wide, he began to travel through famous mountains and rivers, leaving his footprints all over the southeast. Whenever he arrived at a place, he would climb high to look into the distance, recite poems and write essays to express his inner feelings. His poems often expressed emotions related to nature and contained reflections on life.
After returning home, he shut himself away to read books and immerse himself in academic pursuits. He often said to others: "Although I am just an ordinary person, my aspirations lie with the world. I wish to use what I have learned to benefit society and ensure peace for the people." Thus, he established a school to teach students and educate the villagers. The villagers were moved by his virtues and many followed him to study.
